Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation

Overview

This course has been developed to equip students with the skills and knowledge needed to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in accordance with Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines. It prepares participants to provide CPR in a variety of situations, including both community and workplace settings.

Course Overview: This course teaches the skills and knowledge required to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) in line with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) Guidelines.

This course is designed for anyone who may need to perform CPR in a workplace or community setting. The training follows the guidelines recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC).

Target Audience: Individuals who are required to hold CPR for work requirements or industry accreditation in the civil, construction,electrical, rail or mining industries.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring:

Participants must provide a USI number on enrolment and provide photographic identification and be physically capable of performing at least 4 minutes of CPR on a combination of adult and infant CPR mannequins. Apply for or retrieve your USI number at www.usi.gov.au

Pre-requisites: Nil

Delivery Mode: This course may be delivered by face to face delivery or blended learning

Duration: Initial Training: 4hrs.                     Renewal Training: 2hrs

Physical Requirements: This course includes a physical component,  participants will be required to participate in role play activities, practical assessments and be able to perform a minimum of 2 minutes of uninterrupted CPR on a mannequins placed on the floor.

Learning Outcomes

Learning Outcomes

On successful completion of this course learners will have an understanding of first aid codes of practice, ARC guidelines, AED operation and workplace procedures inclusive of:

  • Managing an unconscious, breathing casualty including appropriate positioning to reduce the risk of airway compromise in line with ARC guideline (3)
  • Managing an unconscious, non-breathing adult in line with ARC guideline (8) including:
  • How to perform adult, child and infant C.P.R
  • How to apply and follow the prompts of an automated external defibrillator (AED)
  • How to hand over the casualty to emergency services
  • How to report the incident
  • Conduct a review of the incident

Assessment

Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations.

On Completion: Upon successful completion, participants will be awarded with a Statement of Attainment in HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation
