Course Overview: This course provides learners with the skills and knowledge required to safely operate a boom-type Elevating Work Platform (EWP) where the length of the boom is 11 metres or more in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements Persons performing work from a Boom Type EWP with a boom length of 11m or more are required to hold a boom-type elevating work platform HRWL. On completion of this course successful learners can undertake an assessment undertaken by a WHSQ Accredited Assessor to gain a High Risk Work Licence (HRWL) to operate this plant.

What is a Boom Type EWP?: A Boom-type elevating work platform means: A telescoping device, hinged device, or articulated device, or any combination of these, used to support a platform on which personnel, equipment and materials may be elevated.

Target Audience: Workers in the Queensland building and construction industry.

Entry Requirements/What to Bring:

Participants must provide a USI number on enrolment and provide photographic identification on enrolment. Participants must provide and wear their own PPE for this course. This course contains safety critical information requiring participants have the ability to read, write and understand English and basic calculations.

Pre-requisites: Nil.

Delivery Mode: This course may be delivered by face to face delivery or blended learning

Duration: 3 Days Includes Assessment for HRWL (WP)

Learning Outcomes

    At the completion of this unit of competency, you should be able to demonstrate the ability to:   

    • Safely operate a boom-type Elevating Work Platform (EWP) where the length of the boom is 11 metres or more in accordance with all relevant legislative requirements including:

      • Planning for the work/task
      • Preparing for the work/task
      • Performing work/task
      • Packing up the EWP

    Assessment

    Assessment is a combination of written questions/answers and practical demonstrations

    HRWL Assessment: Assessment for the High Risk Work License is conducted by a WHSQ Accredited Assessor 

    On Completion: Participants will be issued with a nationally accredited Statement of Attainment for 

    • TLILIC0005 – License to operate a boom type elevating work platform (boom length 11 meters or more)
